He pushes a pram around the streets of Sheffield no matter the weather, wearing his green wig and waving his giant Macmillan Foam Hand. John Burkhill, 73, has always walked alone. But John is asking the people of South Yorkshire to unite behind him and Walk Miles for Macmillan.

‘The Mad Man with the Pram’ has walked hundreds of thousands of miles raising vital funds for people affected by Cancer but he is leading a unique walk around Sheffield which takes place on Sunday 17th June 2012 – Father’s Day.  John said, “The people of Sheffield are the best in the country. I’ve met so many of them and I would be so proud if all the people of Sheffield who’ve been affected by Cancer would get behind me and Macmillan and join me in this walk.”

He adds, “I’ve met a few characters in my time, have some amazing memories of the people I’ve met, but the sight of 200 Sheffield-ers joining me wearing those green wigs and hands would certainly bring a smile to my face.”

John sadly lost his wife, June, to cancer and his daughter, Karen, during a routine operation a year later. He has dedicated his life to raising funds for Macmillan for the past 20 years and has raised over £150,000, completing in 870 races including the London marathon 22 times! His prolific fundraising efforts also saw him chosen to carry the Olympic torch in Sheffield!

Rob Turner, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan in Sheffield, added “It’s estimated there are approximately 176,000 people in Sheffield living with cancer. Macmillan currently reaches 1 in 2 people affected but we want to do more.”
